5 Items I Rarely Save On

I often talk about shopping with intention. That means knowing when to save and when spending a little more is actually worth it.

Not everything in your wardrobe needs to be expensive. In fact, many of my favorite pieces were very affordable. But there are a few categories where I usually find that investing a bit more pays off in the long run.

Here are five items I rarely save on.

1. Jackets and Blazers

The quality of the fabric and the construction make a noticeable difference. A well-made blazer tends to drape better, keep its shape, and look polished for years.

That doesn't mean you can't find great affordable options. This season, for example, I found a beautiful linen blazer at Zara. The only detail I didn't love was the plastic buttons. Replacing them with better-quality buttons is an inexpensive alteration that makes the blazer look much more refined.

2. Shoes

Comfort is my priority.

I walk a lot in New York, so shoes need to work for my lifestyle. A comfortable pair that supports your feet is often worth the investment because you'll reach for it again and again.

That said, I've also found some interesting faux leather shoes that were surprisingly comfortable. If they fit well and you take good care of them, they can last longer than you might expect.

3. Bras

This is probably one of the most important wardrobe investments.

A well-fitting bra improves comfort, provides the right support, and helps your clothes fit the way they were designed to. Even a beautiful outfit won't look its best if the foundation underneath isn't working.

4. Bags

You don't need to buy luxury bags to have quality.

Today, many brands make beautiful, well-crafted bags at mid-range prices. And if you have your eye on a designer bag, the pre-loved market can be an excellent option. You can often find timeless pieces in great condition while shopping more sustainably.

5. Swimwear

A good swimsuit or bikini usually offers a better fit, better support, and fabrics that hold up well over time.

Since swimwear is often the only thing you're wearing at the beach or by the pool, I think it's worth choosing one that makes you feel comfortable and confident.

The key is intention. Notice that I said I rarely save on these items.

There are always exceptions. Sometimes you find an amazing piece at a great price, and sometimes a small alteration can make an affordable item look much more expensive.

For me, personal style has never been about spending more. It's about understanding where an investment truly makes a difference in your lifestyle, comfort, and confidence.
