Are Skinny Jeans Really Coming Back?

I recently received this question on Instagram: Are skinny jeans really coming back?

It’s a good question because there has been a lot of conversation about skinny jeans lately, especially after Prada showed very slim pants in its Spring 2027 Menswear collection.

But I think the bigger story is not exactly the return of the skinny jean.

For a while now, I’ve noticed silhouettes starting to move closer to the body. After several seasons of oversized clothes, very wide pants, and lots of volume, we are beginning to see slimmer shapes again.

And not only on the runway. I’ve started seeing more skinny and slim jeans on retailers’ websites too.

So yes, I expect slimmer jeans and pants in general to become more available.

Does that mean wide-leg pants are going out of style?

No.

Fashion doesn’t change quite that quickly anymore. I don’t expect wide-leg jeans, trousers, or barrel pants to disappear. I have several that I love, and I certainly plan to continue wearing them.

What I like about this shift is that we will have more options.

For the last few years, it has sometimes been difficult to find anything other than wide or oversized pants. Having slim pants available again gives us another silhouette to work with.

And that also creates different styling possibilities.

It’s all about proportions

If I wear skinny or slim pants again, I probably won’t style them exactly as I did years ago.

I like the idea of pairing a slimmer bottom with a shirt, sweater, or jacket that has a little more volume. The contrast between the fitted bottom and the volume on top creates a completely different proportion from an outfit with wide-leg pants.

Personally, I wouldn’t choose a very fitted top with very fitted pants. That full slim silhouette is not for me. But that doesn’t mean it won’t work for someone else.

That is the interesting part about having more silhouettes available: we can choose the proportions that work for our bodies, our wardrobes, and our personal style.

So, are skinny jeans coming back? I think we’ll definitely see more of them. But perhaps the better news is that our choices are getting wider, even as our pants get slimmer.

And I’m very happy about that.
