How I Chose What to Wear to Teach During Fashion Week

Last week I gave a class for the NY Fashion Tour during Fashion Week, and I thought it would be fun to share how I chose my outfit.

Yes, it was Fashion Week, but I felt absolutely no obligation to wear something new.

As you probably know, I actually enjoy repeating clothes. To me, repeating means the purchase was right. It means I truly love the piece and know how to wear it in different ways.

But there is something I love even more than repeating clothes: shopping my own closet.

You know when you find something you haven’t worn in a while and almost forgot you had? That feeling is the best.

Because I needed to wake up very early that day, I organized everything the night before. I knew I wanted to wear a third piece — a blazer — to convey a sense of authority (in a good way), while still keeping it modern and aligned with my personal style.

Then I had an idea: how nice would it be to have something interesting tied over the blazer?

When I found my silk printed scarf with fringes, bingo. That was exactly what I needed.

I started building the outfit from there.

I chose a navy pinstriped blazer that I bought second-hand at The RealReal (still with tags, one of my favorite finds). Mixing patterns didn’t bother me at all because the colors worked together.

Then I added navy pants I already had, which needed a heel, my green boots were perfect, and green was already present in the scarf.

Under the blazer, I wore a simple navy wool turtleneck, so the scarf could really be the protagonist of the outfit.

I was very happy with the result.

And of course, now I’m already thinking about all the other ways I can wear that scarf.

Fringe was actually one of the trends shown for Fall 2026 during Fashion Week. You can take a look at my latest post here.

This is exactly how I like to build a wardrobe: versatile pieces, interesting details, and small creative ideas that can transform a simple outfit.
