How to dress business casual for your new job

I have heard that last August had the highest number of workers resigning in the US.

That's probably why so many women are looking for help with their wardrobes.

Changing jobs always makes us wonder if we are well-dressed or wearing appropriate clothes for the professional environment.

Clients have also told me that everyone is wearing more casual outfits to work lately - clearly a post-pandemic effect.

One even told me that she never wore jeans to work before COVID, but now it's her first choice. She said it's what feels right at the moment.

Honestly, now that I think about it, it took me a long time to see someone wearing a suit in Manhattan in 2021. And I don't think I have seen many…

So how to dress business casual nowadays?

This obviously depends on several aspects: the company you work for, whether you will meet clients in person or not, and so on. But, in general, there are some options you could opt for. Here are three ideas:

1- Jeans + a nice T-shirt + blazer

It's all about visual balance, right? Adding a third piece (blazer) always elevates your look. Then, choose closed-toe shoes such as a loafer and finish up with simple accessories.

Extra tip: Pick dark denim without any details. It works better than ripped or light-wash jeans.

2- Midi skirt + a sweater + boots

This is an easy and comfortable combination. It's also current. But be careful when pairing with stiletto high heels if you need to walk a lot during your shift or while commuting.

3- A sweater dress

This can be a solution if you are looking for comfort but still wants to look effortlessly chic.

I suggest avoiding styles that are too fitted. Ribbed knits can be too tricky.

Try to find a piece that is a bit loose and put on a leather belt that ties in and complements the dress.

Finally, layer up with a not-too-long jacket for a perfect match.

Many of my new clients are going back to their offices, attending events, meeting customers, or changing jobs and careers. I know how challenging these can be, but I'm here to help you.

Getting dressed every day should be fun and not stressful at all.
