Packing for a business trip in the Caribbean

Last week, I attended a global conference of AICI, the Association International of Image Consultants. It was in Punta Cana.

I knew it was going to be super hot and humid. I needed to pack business casual clothes, but I had some freedom since they had to be appropriate for a professional that works with style. I also had to plan outfits for a cocktail on the first day and a Gala Dinner on the last night.

I chose comfortable pants, shirts, and sandals to attend talks or meetings. For getting drinks, I wore a white midi dress.

The Gala Dinner was my biggest challenge. The theme was Creativity in Action. I didn't want to wear anything too formal, with sequins or sleeves. The main reason is that it doesn't resonate with my style. I wanted to wear a flowy dress in a bright color that would be suitable for a party in the Caribbean during the Summer.

I ended up picking a simple dress in my closet. It allowed me to wear a statement piece of jewelry that would add personality. Consequently, I asked my friend Silvia, designer of Iza by Silvia D' Ávila, to borrow one of the pieces she created for a NY Fashion Week runway show. Guess what? I loved the result!

In conclusion, when you stay true to your style, you communicate who you are and feel more confident. Additionally, when you have a curated wardrobe that fits you, you don't stress about what you need to wear - whether or not it's a special occasion.
