Reasons why you should have a tailor
The way your clothes fit your silhouette is so important, that I always say that knowing a good tailor is crucial in our lives.
Especially if you are petite like me, it's so difficult for a new piece to fit perfectly.
Sometimes, I take clothes to the tailor for just a 1-inch alteration. I swear, it makes all the difference!
Honestly, it doesn't matter if the pants don't cost much or don't have the best quality, when the alteration is done well and it fits perfectly, it immediately elevates your outfit.
Now, if you're wondering how to find a good tailor shop in your area, I suggest you ask your friends or high-end stores for recommendations. Make sure to read some reviews at Yelp or Google as well.
If you don't have particularly any good references, start asking for a simple service as a pants hem. If it does go well, there you go! You can try something more complicated next time.
Here is another great tip: If you find a tailor that makes custom menswear, it means he knows about clothing construction.
Menswear (suits, blazers, etc.) are more complicated than womenswear, so it requires more skills from the tailor.
Obviously, the more skilled a tailor is, the better.
They can really change the shape of an old jacket, or turn a dress into a skirt. In fact, I have done this with a dress that I loved the print but not so much the style.
When I do my client's Wardrobe Consultation, it also includes recommendations for clothes alterations, besides the creation of new outfits.
This is the way towards having a curated wardrobe!
