What I Learned from Researching Lingerie and Activewear in NYC

This past week, I had the opportunity to work on a fascinating project: curating and researching lingerie and activewear brands and stores in New York City for a group of Brazilian entrepreneurs.

These business owners have their factories and brands in Brazil, and they traveled to NYC to attend a specialized trade show and study the market. The goal? To explore ways to grow their businesses and better understand the American consumer.

I was invited to host and guide them through this experience, doing the groundwork to choose the most relevant visits based on their niche and goals. We focused not just on style or trends, but on identifying the ideal clients for each brand from the customer’s point of view.

As a personal stylist, I’ve always been interested in the role of underwear, especially bras, in how we experience clothing. Most women are wearing the wrong size, and many dislike bras for that reason. But a well-fitting bra can change how you carry yourself and how your clothes fit. It's about comfort, yes, but also shape and support.

Throughout this project, I learned even more about lingerie construction and the technical side of activewear. Materials, technology, support features… so much goes into making these pieces functional, comfortable, and beautiful.

It reminded me of what I often say to clients: the foundation matters. A great outfit starts with the right undergarments.

This is something we always talk about during a Style Bliss session. From bra sizing to what type of underwear works best under certain pieces, it's all part of creating a wardrobe that works for your real life, not just in theory.

Because feeling good in your clothes starts underneath.
