What to Wear When Nothing Fits: A Real Styling Session During Pregnancy
From a few pieces to real outfits, this is how we made it work.
Let’s talk about Manu. She has been my client for years, and over time she also became a friend.
She has always preferred a very small wardrobe. Even living in a place with four seasons, she keeps things simple: she doesn’t love to shop, and she doesn’t want excess. Everything in her closet has a purpose.
Now she’s pregnant, and only a few pieces fit her.
Instead of going shopping first, we decided to work with what she already had. We scheduled a Styling Hour to look at her wardrobe and see what still works and how to wear it now. This is something I always do with my clients: first, I check what is currently working in their wardrobes.
Dressing for Now and What’s Coming Next
Our session was in mid-March, when it was still cold. But Spring was already around the corner, and she had a babymoon planned just a few days later. So we created outfits for now and also for her trip. We worked with the pieces that still fit her changing body and adjusted the styling so everything felt comfortable, but still like her.
Adding Only What Was Needed
After working with what she had, I suggested a few versatile pieces to add. Easy, comfortable, and still put together, but not maternity clothes for now. At one point, she found a set of shorts at a nearby store and sent me photos. It worked perfectly.
This is usually how I guide my clients. We don’t add much, only what makes sense.
When Something Works, But Not Completely
One of the outfits had a great shape and worked well for her body at that moment, but the color was not her best, and she knew it - Manu had her color analysis done with me many years ago, and she has told me many times that it transformed her life. But the sweater was a family gift and handmade - that’s something we can always adjust. Not everything needs to be perfect to be useful, especially during a transition like pregnancy.
The Result
With just a few pieces, we created multiple outfits for different moments in her life right now. Nothing excessive, just a wardrobe that adapts. We ordered two dresses that she can wear until the baby is born. If necessary, we can add more pieces in the next few weeks.
This is exactly what I do during a Styling Hour. It’s for you if:
You don’t know how to wear the pieces you already have.
Your wardrobe doesn’t feel like you anymore.
You have something coming up, like a trip or work events, and need help putting outfits together.
It’s also a great option if you are a new client and don’t have the availability for a longer service. If this sounds like you, you can learn more about how we can work together here.
