Are Woven Shoes Appropriate for a Business Casual Office?

A follower recently sent me a question that many women are probably wondering about this time of the year:

Are woven shoes appropriate for a business casual office?

My answer is: in the Summer, probably yes.

Woven shoes can be a great option when temperatures rise, and you want something lighter than a loafer or a ballet flat. If you are considering a pair for work, I would suggest choosing a neutral color and a simple shape. These details help the shoe feel more polished and professional.

The exception might be those mesh shoes that are completely see-through. While they are very popular right now, they can feel a little too casual for some office environments.

As with many style questions, there is no universal rule. What feels appropriate in one workplace may not feel right in another. Company culture, your industry, and even the season can influence what people wear.

I also find that many offices become more flexible during the Summer, especially on Fridays. Paying attention to what colleagues and leaders in your workplace are wearing is often the best guide.

When in doubt, choose the more polished option. You can still enjoy Summer style while looking professional and feeling comfortable.
