Editing your closet: 5 tips on how to do a closet cleanout

Recently, I talked about how many women want to have a curated wardrobe this year.

And to achieve that, the first thing that comes to our minds is doing a cleanout.

We all need to get rid of a few things, but how can we purge our closets without having any regrets?

In my opinion, leave the decluttering part for later. Start by paying attention to yourself:

  • What do you like?

  • What fits your lifestyle?

  • What are your image goals?

This is how I work with my clients. Why? Because I wouldn't be able to do a personalized consultation if I went straight to their closets. I have to assess their wants and needs.

To start scratching off this resolution, follow these tips:

  1. Create an inspirational mood board. Add the items you like and work for you. I promise this is a fun and effective exercise.

  2. Look at your photos from the past years. What did you enjoy wearing? What made you feel comfortable? When did you look stylish or confident with yourself?

  3. I don't like the rule that we should donate what we haven't worn in the past six or twelve months. If we consider the pandemic, this idea won't make any sense at all.

  4. Try on all the clothes you own. If some pieces don't fit you now, remove them from your wardrobe. Put them aside. You don't need any more stress in your life, right? Give yourself a break. We have been through difficult times. Take a note to review them in a year.

  5. Donate or sell clothing or accessories that no longer resonate with your style goals. I'm sure you will make someone happy!

Do any of these ideas sound useful to you? Are you willing to try any of them? Let me know what you think!
