How I Wear Long Shorts
Long shorts, or bermudas, are one of those pieces many women find tricky to wear.
I hear questions like: "Will they make me look shorter?" or "How do I wear them without looking frumpy?" all the time.
As someone who is 5'3", I understand the concern. But the good news is that long shorts can look modern, flattering, and chic with a few styling adjustments.
Here are some of the things I pay attention to when wearing mine.
1. Don't Buy Them Too Fitted
A little room through the leg usually looks more current and feels more comfortable. When shorts are too fitted, they can sometimes feel less polished and harder to style.
2. Pay Attention to the Length
This particular length works very well on my petite frame, but that doesn't mean it's the only option.
As with most style advice, there are no strict rules. The best length depends on your proportions, personal style, and how you like your clothes to fit.
3. Show Your Waist
One of the easiest ways to create balance with long shorts is to define the waist.
That might mean choosing a shorter top, doing a front tuck, or adding a belt. Small details like these can make a big difference in the overall proportions of an outfit.
4. Try a Monochromatic Look
Wearing similar colors from head to toe can create a longer visual line, which is often helpful for petites.
That said, don't feel limited to monochromatic outfits. Long shorts can work beautifully with contrast and color too.
5. Choose Your Shoes Carefully
Shoes play an important role when styling bermudas.
Showing a bit of skin can help balance the proportions, and that doesn't mean you need to wear high heels. Flats, sandals, loafers, and many other styles can work well depending on the look you're creating.
If you've been avoiding long shorts, consider giving them another try. Sometimes, a few small styling tweaks are all it takes to make a piece feel right for you.
And remember, style is about finding what works for your body, your lifestyle, and your personal taste, not following rules.
