From Rio to New York: How My Style Evolved (and Why I Don’t Choose Just One)
People often ask me how my style has changed, given that I'm from Rio de Janeiro and live in New York.
It’s a fair question. And the honest answer is: my style didn’t change overnight, it evolved, just like my life did.
Every time I go back to Rio, I do what I always do when I travel: I observe.
I walk into stores, revisit brands I already love, and discover new ones. And like everywhere else in the world, some stores close, others change designers, and many evolve. You really need to see what’s happening now.
This Summer, I noticed lots of prints, colors, joy, and movement.
And a lot of resortwear inspiration everywhere.
That didn’t surprise me. Colors have always been part of my life; they make me happy, they give me energy, and they feel natural to me.
But something interesting happened: I walked into a store by a designer who studied in New York. And suddenly, I felt at home again: deep shades, no prints, tailored pieces.
That contrast made me pause. Who am I, really? The neutral, minimalist New Yorker? Or the colorful carioca? My answer: neither, and both at the same time.
Over the years, my lifestyle changed many times. I lived in different countries, adapted to different rhythms, climates, and routines. And my style evolved along with that, slowly, naturally, and in a very personal way.
Today, I know I don’t need to choose one side; I can mix what I love. I can feel comfortable and grounded in New York. And I can carry the Rio de Janeiro vibe that will never leave my soul.
That’s what personal style means to me: not fitting into one aesthetic, one city, or one label, but allowing yourself to evolve and create something that feels true to you.
Your style doesn’t have to fit in one box.
If you feel torn between different sides of your style, this is exactly the kind of conversation I love having with clients, helping them connect lifestyle, personality, and wardrobe in a way that feels natural and intentional.
