How to Make Your Special Pieces Work for Everyday Life
Many women tell me they have “party dresses” or “special clothes” sitting in their closets, worn only once or twice a year. But here’s the thing: why let those beautiful pieces wait for a perfect occasion? Clothes are meant to be enjoyed, not just admired from a hanger.
Yesterday, I wore a white dress that many would save for a fancy dinner or party. Instead, I styled it for a day working with clients. And you know what? It felt great.
Here are a few takeaways from this outfit that you can try with your own wardrobe.
1. Dress Down with Shoes
I paired the white dress with espadrilles. They kept me comfortable all day and instantly made the look more casual. The right shoes can completely change the mood of an outfit. Think sneakers with a slip dress or flat sandals with a tailored skirt.
2. Use Jewelry to Balance Colors
Bright white, especially near my face, isn’t my best color. So, I balanced it with jewelry in warm tones: gold and orange stones. This trick works with any “not-so-great” color. Accessories can shift the overall harmony of your look.
3. Play with Details
Instead of wearing a pair of earrings, I chose just one bold ear cuff. It’s a small change, but it adds a modern, edgy touch. Details like this are what make an outfit feel personal and fresh.
4. Makeup Can Do the Work Too
Wearing colors outside your best palette? Keep your makeup in shades that flatter you. A lipstick or blush in the right tone can make a huge difference.
5. Don’t Wait for a Special Occasion
Clothes don’t have to sit in the closet waiting for the “right” event. For me, yesterday was special simply because I spent it with two wonderful clients. That was reason enough to wear something I love.
And remember: wearing your clothes more often is not only good for your wallet, it’s also good for the planet.
A Little Challenge for You
This weekend, try styling something you once wore to a party in a more casual way. Maybe it’s a dress with flat sandals, or a sparkly top with jeans. See how it feels, and let me know how it goes!
