How to match colors: Monochromatic Combination

This is a new post of the series about Color Combinations.

Actually, I wrote a post about monochromatic outfit combinations in 2019, which became a trend in the past seasons by the way.

Now, we can see it everywhere: on the runway, fashion editorials, and on the streets.

In fact, yesterday's inauguration was no different!

The monochromatic combination was a favorite fashion choice among women. Actually, it's perfect for formal occasions because it sends a message of elegance, despite the color you choose. Not to mention that it elongates the figure (Michelle Obama looked even taller than she is!), so it's a perfect choice for Petites.

When I talk about a monochromatic combination, I mean wearing clothes in the same color, not necessarily in the same shade or tone. For example, it's totally fine to match different shades of blue in the same outfit.

If you think it might look boring, try picking different textures: wool and leather, or denim and linen in the summer.

What about the accessories? Well, they don't need to be in the same color. However, if they are non-neutral or in a very different color, it might end up changing the combination, and get less elegant and more creative.

Truth be told: there is no right or wrong here, it always depends on the message you wish to deliver. Remember we always communicate a message with what we choose to wear.
