How to Refresh Your Winter Coat with Brooches

Sometimes, a single detail can change how an outfit feels. When Winter is long, and we’re wearing the same coats every day, it’s easy to feel bored with our wardrobe. That’s why I love simple styling tricks that help you see your clothes in a new way, without buying something new.

One of my favorites? Adding brooches in unexpected places.

Why Brooches Work So Well

Brooches are often associated with classic or “old-fashioned” looks, but when you use them creatively, they feel modern, personal, and stylish.

Instead of placing them only on lapels, try them on coat pockets, sleeves, near zippers, on scarves, or wraps.

These small changes add interest and make your coat feel more intentional, even if it’s something you’ve owned for years.

Mixing Vintage and Modern Pieces

My favorite place to find unique brooches will always be vintage and second-hand shops. You can find beautiful pieces with character, history, and great quality. But I also know that sometimes you want something easy to buy right now.

That’s why in this post, I’m also sharing some nice brooch options currently available in stores, so you can mix timeless pieces with modern finds. This balance is something I always encourage my clients to aim for: invest in quality, reuse what you already have, and shop intentionally.

How to Style Brooches Without Overthinking

If you’re not used to wearing brooches, start simple. Try moving it slightly higher, switching sides, or adding a second one, and see what feels right when you look in the mirror. There is no “right” place, only what feels natural to you.

A Small Detail That Makes a Big Difference

What I love about this trick is that it brings creativity back into getting dressed. You’re simply giving yourself permission to try something different and see what works for you.

You’re not following trends or rules, you’re building a style that feels personal. And suddenly, your everyday coat feels new again. That’s the power of personal style.
