The Scarf-as-a-Skirt Experiment
For a long time, I had in mind the Dries Van Noten silk print mini skirt — worn over pants, of course. I always thought it would be a great “accessory” to bring a creative touch to my loved neutral clothes.
After all, I love neutrals, but I also like to add a bit of spice to them, especially in the Winter. A Rio de Janeiro native gets a little bored with so many black outfits around.
When I was at Second Edition, a secondhand shop I had been wanting to visit, I found a rectangular silk scarf from Etro. I happened to be wearing my old purple flats that day, and suddenly everything clicked: that’s what I want!
I folded the scarf to make it look more like a mini skirt - that’s how I prefer it (I’m 5'3”). But there are no rules here.
Style, for me, is about creativity and confidence. It’s about wearing what you love, what represents your personality, and finding new ways to wear what you already own.
P.S. You don’t always need something new to feel inspired. Sometimes, all it takes is looking at your closet with fresh eyes — or in this case, turning a scarf into a skirt.
