Why These Shorts Earned a Place in My Summer Wardrobe

When it comes to shorts, I have one simple rule: they need to fit me well.

Lately, I've been enjoying the trending pull-on shorts. They're comfortable, easy to wear, and can look polished when styled thoughtfully. Even so, shorts aren't an item that I usually spend a lot of money on.

I recently found a pair of red linen shorts and decided to build my 4th of July outfit around them. I paired them with an old white tank top, a navy button-down shirt, and simple accessories.

One detail I really liked was adding the navy shirt. Besides bringing another color into the outfit, it also helped balance the proportions. A long necklace created a longer vertical line, something I often pay attention to as someone who is 5'3".

This outfit is a good reminder that creating a great look isn't about wearing new clothes. Sometimes it's simply about combining pieces you already own in a different way and paying attention to proportions, color, and accessories.

If you're still shopping this summer, look for pieces that fit your lifestyle and that you can imagine wearing with several items already in your wardrobe. That's how you build a wardrobe that works harder for you.
